<div itemprop="description">ANTJE LINGNER : <br />Award winning Graphic Designer died peacefully on her own terms at home on Monday January 25, 2016. <br /> Antje was born in Aiud Romania on October 2, 1930. <br /> A peaceful childhood was interrupted by war; so with her small Romanian village due to be invaded by Russia, Antje&rsquo;s family fled to Austria and later Germany where, once settled, she began her Art and Design education. <br />She trained in Germany as a Graphic Designer at the Meisterschule in Offenbach, near Frankfurt , and started her career there, at the Bauer Type Foundry in the early 1950s. <br />Antje moved to Canada, at 23 to help the growing family of her beloved sister Eva von Engelbrechten, whom she is survived by. Although challenged by language barriers, Antje managed through her talent and determination to find a position as the first full time in house designer in Canada, working for The University of Toronto Press. Over her 40 year career she received several design accolades including three medals from the prestigious Leipzig Book Fair, two citations from the Alcuin Society, and numerous other awards from the Association of American University Presses. Antje retired in October 1995 and pursued her love of photography and nature spending many happy hours at her family cottage and, traveling to Mexico where she became fluent in Spanish, and, to Canada&rsquo;s east coast to photo retreats with renowned photographer Freeman Patterson. <br /> Her beautiful library of photo slides are a treasure left to her family. <br /> Antje will be fondly remembered for her artistic talent, intelligence, quick wit, compassion and generosity. <br /> She will be sadly missed by her friends and large extended family. <br /> <br /> Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel at McDougall &amp; Brown Funeral Home, 2900 Kingston Road on Friday, January 29th at 1:00 p.m. (with visitation 1 hour prior.) <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /></div>
