Our lovely Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Auntie Josephine (Josie) Teresa Gomes nee Machado passed away peacefully on September 23, 2016 at the age of 87 years old. She was surrounded by family.

Josie was born in Georgetown, Guyana and immigrated to Canada with her husband (predeceased) Wilfred Gomes in 1955. She worked as a care worker privately and in nursing homes. Josie was a vibrant and loving person with a big heart who together with her husband fostered many children over the years. She loved music and never passed up an opportunity to dance. Josie loved to sew, knit and crochet. She loved fashion and making clothes. She loved summers at their cottage in Waubaushene on Georgian Bay. The whole family have fond memories of time there over the years.
At the time of her death Josie resided in Bendale Acres in Scarborough. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and was proud of them all. She was loved dearly by Tina, Gary and Adam and all her nieces and nephews. We will miss her laugh and her ranting about politics at the TV. Josie was also a devout Catholic and never missed watching or attending Sunday mass.

Josie is survived by her sister Mary Nilla Gomes. Josie is also survived by daughter Marlyn and her daughters Ashley and Jennifer; Her son Andre Gomes (Tammy) and children Tyler, Kayla and Renee; Her son Robert Gomes (Cynthia) and children Shaun and Vanessa; and all her great-grandsons Eli and Parker, Nathan, Jackson, Cole and Kane and Benjamin and Sammy. She is also survived by her loving care worker Jackie who made her smile and laugh while she struggled the past few years.
