<div itemprop="description">Died peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 16th at age 69, after a valiant struggle with sarcoma. He leaves his cherished wife and best friend, Sheila (Foster). Loving father of Christina Shatilla (Christopher, deceased) and Julia Marchant, adored Poppa to Lauren &amp; Gavin Shatilla. He will be greatly missed by his step children, Martin Foster (Joanne), Nicholas Foster (Lesley Summers) and Sarah Foster, and as Gramps to grandchildren Avery, Jack, Anna and Hailey Foster. He is survived by his loving sisters, Margaret Ann Whitten (Francis) and families, and Elizabeth Cowling (John) and families, and also by his sister-in-law, Joan Briant. He is fondly remembered by Bonnibel Marchant.<br /><br /><br /><br />Born in The Beach area of Toronto to Dr. Peter &amp; Gwendolyn Marchant (Rawlins) he attended local schools in the area before attending University of Toronto. He enjoyed a career in the financial and investment banking fields with various firms for nearly 45 years, which included Burns Fry, Dominion Securities, Wood Gundy and for the years prior to his retirement, BMO Nesbitt Burns. Peter loved being part of the industry and made many friends along the way. Until his death, he would religiously read the financial section in the newspapers.<br /><br /><br /><br />Peter&rsquo;s passion, apart from his family, was the outdoors. He relished in the time he could spend at his beloved cottage on the Ottawa River from his early childhood, and the time spent enjoying the wildlife, animal prints on the shore, fishing and the wonderful sunsets. The greatest pleasure for Peter and Sheila, was the designing and rebuilding of the cottage on the Ottawa River in 2000 for all the family to enjoy. Peter enjoyed the clubs he belonged to, and the friendships he developed, in addition to his love of duck hunting, fishing, golf, boating, reading, music and travelling. <br /><br /><br /><br />We would like to thank the many friends and family for their support, kindness, and love they have shown during the past nine months - we were very touched. <br /><br /><br /><br />Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 18th from 2 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. at Sherrin Funeral Home, 873 Kingston Rd. and funeral service will take place on Friday, September 19th at 2 p.m. at The Church of Saint Aidan, 70 Silver Birch Ave. Toronto. <br /><br />In lieu of flowers, if wished, a donation may be made to a charity of your choice.</div>
